Wireless zero Configuration: Available in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, Wireless Zero Configuration is a feature used to dynamically select the wireless network to which to attempt connection, based either on your preferences or on default settings. This includes automatically selecting and connecting to a more preferred wireless network when it becomes available. If none of the preferred wireless networks are found nearby, Wireless Auto Configuration configures the wireless adapter so that there is no accidental connection until the wireless client roams within the range of a preferred network. Sometimes you get an error message saying

"Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software. If you want Windows to configure this wireless connection, start the wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) service. For information about starting WZC service, see article 871122 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base on the microsoft.com Web site."

This usually happens when you have a network adapter that has installed its own wireless management software and  disabled microsoft wireless management utility called the Wireless Zero Configuration. If you would like windows to manage your wireless connection you can disable, exit or uninstall the software installed by your network hardware and enable the Windows wireless zero configuration service.

To start the wireless zero configuration

Method 1

1) Click on Start --> Run

2) Type services.msc  and press OK

3) Scroll down to Wireless zero configuration and double click on it.

4) Select Startup Type to be Automatic. This will setup the service to start automatically when the computer restarts.

5) Click on the Start button and then OK and exit out.

Method 2

1) Go to Control Panel

2) Open Administrative Tools

3) Double Click on 'Services'

4) Scroll down to 'Wireless Zero Configuration' and then double click on it.

5) Select Startup type to be automatic and then click on Start.

6) Press OK and exit.
